onderkast studio is owned and operated by Danielle Aldrich. While working on her BFA in Graphic Design at the University of Kansas, she took a summer class in letterpressing. Love ensued. In 2011, she got the chance to take a workshop at the Hamilton Wood Type Museum in Two Rivers, Wisconsin where her passion for letterpress printing grew. When she got back she landed an internship at a letterpress shop working on a Chandler & Price in Lawrence, Kansas. After graduation in 2012, Danielle packed up and moved to Dallas, Texas.
In 2013, she made the impulsive move to buy her own 100-year-old Chandler & Price press and most importantly, her mascot and onderkat, Jack. The next year she met her future business partner and fiancé, Lu, who operates the press and does the accounting (because Danielle hates to math).
With an intense passion for creativity and a love for all things paper, we opened shop in 2015. We specialize in letterpressed goods, custom invitations & crafts.
